Nirmal And His Super Car

I met Nirmal on Badem hill one day last week as I drove up there to watch the sunset. He was sitting in this amazing looking car that he had built, listening to music with his wife Dyugo and their son, Ata. I got out of my car to admire his amazing wheels and soon enough we were chillin there together in the front seat, talking about fire performances and trans music as the sun was setting over the Chapora river. A great sunset point by the way. I knew at once I wanted to take his portrait. Nirmal is one of the oldest tribe of foreigners to who came to go back in the days. Maybe not the oldest, but he’s been around for many years, playing great trans and performing at the biggest parties in Goa.
We met again a few days later, this time just under the Vagator hill, and climbed up the hill for a portrait session. He knew the road to drive the vehicles up the hill so we didn’t event need to carry all the lights up by foot. How convenient. Dyugo and Ata joined as well for a fun family portrait.
A Souped Up Maruti 800
This car, for those of you who might ask, is hand made on th chassis of a trusted Martuti 800, the iconic Indian vehicle. I used to have a Maruti 800 when we lived in Delhi. It had no AC, and was very little comfort, other than being able to drive us around. I remember showing up in that beat-up of a car to a shining event at one of the five-star properties in Delhi, and leaving the keys to the valet, asking him to make sure he doesn’t get it scratched. Coming out of the event, I was pretending to be upset with the valet as he brought out the wrong car, but this is another story 🙂
